“Creativity is piercing the mundane to find the marvelous.”  Bill Moyers

Browsing through the 365 forum and admiring the work of this one fellow who is just insanely creative – he has mad Photoshop skills, manipulating and creating fantastic images that somehow include an image or parts of images of himself.  Sometimes it’s a stretch to figure out how he has included himself . . . never-the-less his creations are absolutely mesmerizing.

“I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore. . . . I hear it in the deep heart’s core.”  William Butler Yeats

This photo is of a sketch of the original cabin at the lake – which has been added on to and renovated over the years.  We’re headed up there next week to celebrate our Anniversary.  It’s a beautiful, serene spot.  I can’t wait!  I love being woken in the early morning hours by the hauntingly beautiful calls of the Loons, and the pitter patter of the squirrels across the roof as the scamper about looking for nuts.  There are few people on the lake this time of year – a bit early for the summer crowd.  The tranquility is so relaxing.

“Waiting and hoping is a hard thing to do when you’ve already been waiting and hoping for almost as long as you can bear it.”   Jenny Nimmo, Charlie Bone and the Time Twister

Out to dinner with my Sister, who is visiting from Whitehorse, Yukon Territories.  We were waiting for my husbands flight, which was two hours late.  I seldom eat out in a restaurant – but we had time to kill and found ourselves at Red Robin.  And of course the lines were quite long .. . a half hour wait for a table.  We were hungry, and didn’t feel like driving around to find out that other places had just the same amount of wait time.  Did I mention that I HATE waiting in line?  Even tho we had time to kill . . . a half hour wait felt like two hours . . . so I kept myself busy playing with the iPhone.  Afterall, I was going to have to relinquish possession in just a couple of hours . . . made the time pass more quickly and I got my 365 picture.

“Some people are born on third base and go through life thinking they hit a triple.”  Barry Switzer

Came across the above quote and thought it was interesting . . . we live life through our own beliefs and perceptions . . . and become who we are as a result.

I was out shopping with my sister.  I was waiting while she was trying clothes on and shot this with the iPhone.

“Well, of course, I’m the wrong person to ask. I like to dial numbers with one hand, and maybe I’m the only one.”  Bill Gates   (Asked if he would buy an Apple iPhone)

My husband had to take a business trip to California.  Since my cel is a Global Phone with two sim cards – one of which is a US cel plan . . . he took it with him and left me with his iPhone 4.  I’ve been wanting to get my hands on it!

“We can only make ourselves the victim.”  Gillian Anderson

We spent the day cleaning out, weeding and building new supports for the raspberry patch.  We started this patch a few years back, and have kind of neglected it, until this year.  We’ve added on to it . . . making it 50 feet long.  It’s gonna be one awesome raspberry manufacturing machine this year!  There are dangers of working around prickly canes tho – as the photo below shows.  Those canes got me pretty good in several places.  I was thinking that I could place the blame on those darn raspberries . . . those inanimate objects that grow protective thorns for a reason!  Isn’t that what we typically do . . . place the blame for injury or hurt on an external source, instead of taking responsibility for creating the circumstances in the first place??  So easy to do . . . lash out and feel better because “it’s not my fault!”  However, I’ve discovered over the years that taking accountability for my own actions is much simpler and easier in the long run . . . I made the choice to attack those raspberry canes without proper protection to prevent injury.  Those canes were simply doing what they were engineered to do . . . protect themselves!  I subject myself to their abuse, however, because I love what their ultimate offering is . . . delicious and juicy tart little fruits that will appear in the next month or so . . . nothing like fresh berries off the bush,  homemade raspberry jam, or fresh frozen berries to enjoy all year long!

“Behavior is the mirror in which everyone shows their image.”  Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

No matter how I feel about myself, how imperfect I perceive myself to be, I am responsible for my own results in my life.  If I’m not happy with what I see when I look in the mirror, I have control over  making whatever change is necessary, creating and achieving the results I want.  If I’m not happy, I have only to look in the mirror to see the source . . .

“We always see our worst selves. Our most vulnerable selves. We need someone else to get close enough to tell us we’re wrong. Someone we trust.”   David Levithan, Naomi and Ely’s No Kiss List

I am, most definitely, my own worst critic.  I interpret everything I do most harshly.   Hence why this 365 Self Portrait Challenge is taking me so far out of my comfort zone.  When I put myself in front of the camera, my perception is that now not only can I see the imperfections, so can the rest of the world!  I’m working on it though, making a concerted effort to put more of me in front of the camera and to be accepting of the results.  I’m encouraged by the amazing people who are participating in the Challenge – a very supportive and motivating group from all around the world.  So stick around for my journey – I’m in for the long haul!
