“Boys are found everywhere—on top of, underneath, inside of, climbing on, swinging from, running around or jumping to. Mothers love them, little girls hate them, older sisters and brothers tolerate them, adults ignore them and Heaven protects them. A boy is Truth with dirt on its face, Beauty with a cut on its finger, Wisdom with bubble gum in its hair and the Hope of the future with a frog in its pocket.” Author: Alan Beck
I had the opportunity to spend the day with my little 2.5 year old Grandson today. What a little sweetie he is. Such a joy. So full of energy, and love. I took many pictures of him today but this one seemed to epitomize his energy, as he climbed and climbed and climbed and climbed! So fun! I love my Grandchildren so much . . . and feel so incredibly blessed to be able to spend the time with them that I do.

Couldn’t be said better than that! I look in her eyes and see such wonder, such possibility . . . I can’t wait to see where she leads us! I took this photo while she was eating lunch – trying to catch myself in the reflections in her eyes. If you look hard, I’m there!

We had a beautiful day here in the Bay Area today, after a week of cold, wind, and rain. So off to the park went baby girl and Grandma. There is just nothing like the innocence of a small child, the beauty of seeing the world thru her eyes. I love being able to provide her with the stability and security she needs during this time of upheaval with her Daddy in Hospital. She’s pretty oblivious to what’s going on, until we see Mommy and then she’s very clingy. Understandably so. I’m going to take her home with me for a couple of weeks so that Mommy can focus on recovering Daddy from his Quintuple Bypass.

Another day with the baby girl while Mommy is at hospital with Daddy. Here we are having play time before morning nap. She is such a sweet girl, and plays very well on her own. It was a bit of a challenge to get her to sit with me for this picture! She kept wanting to explore the camera . . . far more interesting! She’s very curious and very happy.

Baby’s Daddy had Quintuple Heart Bypass surgery today. OMG! We’re all quite shocked that it was that bad. I’m focusing my energies on Baby Girl as she really doesn’t understand any of what is going on, and just needs some consistency and routine to her day. Our theme for the week in our 365 Challenge is “hand” – this is my contribution. I love these tender moments . . .

Hanging out with the Little this morning before heading off to have lunch with some long-time friends that I don’t get to see often enough. Baby was so happy this morning playing around the house as I did some cleaning and organizing. I sat down for a few minutes and before I knew it she had brought me my shoes! When I didn’t put them on . . . she decided she would! One of the “allowances” in our 365 Project is that we can include a few “DNA” shots . . . I think this qualifies, especially since she’s in my shoes!

Baby spent the morning at Day Care while I did some chores. I picked her up at 12:30 and headed to CostCo. What better place to get lunch, than browsing the sample tables! She loves it . . . and picked up a few books for her Easter Basket. (She won’t remember, right??) She had a rough night last night, and I think is battling a cold and feeling the stress of not having Mommy around much at all. Daddy is having surgery on Wednesday, so trying to keep things as normal as possible for her right now. Even tho she loves me and we have a good bond, there is no one like Mommy to make everything all better. It was too cold to go to the park today, so we did our CostCo shop and then came home and played and read books till nap time.

Today is another snuggle picture with the baby. Daddy is still in hospital and will be for another week. Mommy is spending all her waking hours with Daddy. Baby is really feeling the tip in the equilibrium of her life today. She’s needing many more snuggles, and is upset easily – not normal behaviour for this very happy child. I am feeling incredibly blessed to be in a position to help out and to give baby as much normalcy in her life at this time of upheaval as I can. I’m a firm believer that giving of your heart and time is far more valuable than spending money on presents and just showing up once in awhile. I will climb on playground equipment and chase them around, go for walks and read stories for as long as I am able. That’s what these Little’s will remember – not the toys I bought them or the money I spent on them. Now – that doesn’t mean I don’t like to buy things for them! Not at all! However, I’m not that Grandma that will buy them whatever they want to make them happy. I’d much rather sit in the grass and count bugs with them than wander through a shopping mall spending money on stuff they’ll throw in the corner tomorrow.
And being there for them in moments like this . . . priceless!

I’m staying with my Daughter for the next week or so in the SF Bay Area as we wait for Baby Daddy to be scheduled for triple, or possibly quadruple, bypass surgery. He’s in hosp as his condition is critical, and Dghtr is spending all her time with him. Took this shot tonight just before bedtime. Ella was feeling very cuddly, I’m sure missing her Mommie. I am just learning about off camera flash so took several shots while we were snuggling. She was quite intriqued!
