“Bread feeds the body, indeed, but flowers feed also the soul.” The Koran
My husband doesn’t bring me flowers often, but when he does, he really, really does. He brought me the biggest bouquet with a gorgeous variety of flowers. Valentines was three days ago, but as I walked past the vase of flowers tonight I was struck by the beautiful perfume of this huge lily. After doing some light painting to highlight the lily, I applied a bit of post-editing in Lightroom and Photoshop. Below the edited version is the original . . .
“A multiple personality is in a certain sense normal.” George H. Mead
This light painting consists of five individual photos that I did of myself – outlining my shape with the lights. I then put them together in Photoshop to create the Multiples Light Painting. I love today’s quote. From the different experiences in the many stages of my life, to the varied “hats” I wear depending on any given situation or circumstance . . . this photo reflects the “beings” that make up the whole of who I am at my core.
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” Martin Luther King, Jr.
Having so much fun with this light painting, using Valentines as a great excuse! My husband is asking me every night now – “so, are we light painting tonight??” He loves helping me with the whole set up. And yes this is a self-portrait as I pushed the shutter button on a 10 second delay, with a 30 second shutterspeed, and drew the letters with a clear LED light, and then the heart with a red LED glow stick.
“Love doesn’t make the world go ’round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile.” Franklin P. Jones
Here’s yet another attempt at light painting only I’m trying to silhouette myself in the process. Thanks goodness for a very patient husband who is my technical guru. He also makes the ride worthwhile!
“Two souls with but a single thought, two hearts that beat as one.” John Keats
With Valentines Day just around the corner I thought I’d play around with that theme in my light painting tonight. I made several attempts but I think this was the best of the lot. It’s quite a learning curve figuring out how to make the most of the 30 seconds I have to create something on the canvas of darkness. More to come! (If you look carefully, you can see my shadow in the “heart” of the heart.)
“I often think the night is more alive and more richly coloured than the day.” Vincent van Gogh
I’ve been seeing many amazing photography techniques on the MTM site since this 365 Self Portrait Challenge began. Over the next few days or week, I’m going to explore the whole concept of Light Painting. Here is my first attempt. I found some LED glow sticks at WalMart . . . set my camera’s shutterspeed at 30 seconds and just started playing with the light.
