“Today is an ephemeral ghost…
A strange amazing day that comes only once every four years. For the rest of the time it does not “exist.”
In mundane terms, it marks a “leap” in time, when the calendar is adjusted to make up for extra seconds accumulated over the preceding three years due to the rotation of the earth. A day of temporal tune up!
But this day holds another secret—it contains one of those truly rare moments of delightful transience and light uncertainty that only exist on the razor edge of things, along a buzzing plane of quantum probability…
A day of unlocked potential.
Will you or won’t you? Should you or shouldn’t you?
Use this day to do something daring, extraordinary and unlike yourself. Take a chance and shape a different pattern in your personal cloud of probability!” Vera Nazarian, The Perpetual Calendar of Inspiration
I thought about this as I was “leaping” through the air on my way from San Francisco home to Vancouver, BC. What are the possibilities that this extra day every four years can bring in to one’s life? For me, this extra day found me headed home after a wonderful week of immersing myself in my kids and grand-kids – only to go straight from the airport to hospital – as it was discharge day for MIL who’s been recovering from a broken hip (she’s been in hosp since Jan 24th, surgery on the 25th). I knew that I would not be spending the next couple of nights in my own warm and cozy bed – but in her spare bedroom – just to make sure she was able to function on her own without any problems. I snapped this picture with my little point and shoot as I flew out of the San Francisco Bay Area. Tried to capture the Golden Gate Bridge – but didn’t quite get it.
