“We are each our own devil, and we make this world our hell.”  Oscar Wilde

Today’s 365 photo is quite a switch for me.  I don’t usually go to the “dark side” . . . but I couldn’t resist this when I was fiddling around with different presets and editing in both Photoshop and Lightroom.  One of the guys in my 365 group does some pretty far out and amazing things so I’m just channeling my inner “DigiMax” on this one.

I liked today’s quote when I read it because I really do believe that to be true.  I make choices every day that create my experience of life.  That experience can be pretty darned wonderful, pretty darned awful, or somewhere in between those two extremes.  Bad things happen in life . . .they just do.  However, I have choice in every moment in how I am going to act or react in any given situation.  That choice impacts everyone within my sphere of influence – be it intimate or casual.  I strive to wake up every morning thinking with a positive mind, looking for the good things in my life and the lives of others . . . I am so very grateful for every moment of my life leading up to today because each of those moments add up to the person I am now.  Some of those moments aren’t so great – I’m not proud of every decision or action I’ve taken . . . but I strive to move forward and learn from each and every one . . . to be better and to be a positive example and influence for those whose lives I do touch.  I’m no saint and I’m far from perfect, but I am happy and ever so grateful for all the love and abundance I have in my life.

“The rain began again.  It fell heavily, easily, with no meaning or intention but the fulfillment of it’s own nature, which was to fall and fall.”  Helen Garner

And the rain continues . . . I had this vision for a photograph in my mind when I woke up this morning.  I had my camera on the tripod and covered in plastic – it was a bit of a challenge to get the shot.

I didn’t like it in color because of the color cast from the red umbrella on my face.  So I converted to B&W and tweaked a bit in LR4, then took it in to Photoshop CS6 where I ran a High Pass Filter to bring out a bit more detail.  I’m learning so much about how to process my photographs without going overboard.  (It’s so easy to do!)  I think I’ll run a couple of different filters on this just to see what happens . . . so much fun!

“Little moments can have a feeling and a texture that is very real.”  Ralph Fiennes

I was shooting pics of my 4 year old Great Nephew when he looked at me and said “Why don’t you take a picture of yourself?”.  Ha!  So I did!  And this is the result . . . an upside down shot of myself.  I took it in to Lightroom 4 to do a bit of processing, then in to Photoshop CS6 and Topaz Labs to further render the photo.  I also added some texture from Kim Klassen Cafe .

“I don’t sing in the shower at all, and I don’t sing in the shower, either.”  Pia Toscano

I’m working on trying to get a good shower shot.  I’ve seen a few photos of water cascading over wet soapy hair and it looked really cool.  Unfortunately, I’m shooting through the glass of the shower so it’s not very crisp.  You can see the “rain” from the shower head though which is kind of cool.  I thought it looked better in black and white.

“Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!”  Dr Seuss

Going for the abstract . . . but I’m in there!  I’ll leave this one to the imagination . . .

“The possession of knowledge does not kill the sense of wonder and mystery.  There is always more mystery.”  Anais Nin

I’m falling a bit behind in my 365 . . . so am playing catchup.  I am playing around with focusing on my D800 and the 105mm lens.  It’s not as easy as it might seem!  I managed to get the leaf on the plant in great focus . . . so decided that I’d add a bit of texture (Kim Klassen “tapededge.jpg) to create a bit of mystery . . .

“There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that’s your own self.”  Aldous Huxley

I love getting a good pedicure, but they are so expensive!  I will treat myself from time to time . . . but in the meantime I just do it myself.

“May the Smoothie be with you…Always”  Unknown

I’m on a Smoothie kick.

I love coming home from a workout and whipping up a yummy, energy boosting smoothie.

This one is made with delicious Yukon blueberries, delivered by my sister who picked them herself.  I threw the fresh blueberries in the blender with non-fat plain greek yogurt, unsweetened almond milk, frozen mango chunks, vanilla  whey protein powder, ground flax and hemp hearts.  Yummy!

“I acknowledge the privilege of being alive in a human body at this moment, endowed with senses, memories, emotions, thoughts, and the space of mind in its wisdom aspect.”  Alex Grey

I took this photo outside the old tack shed where Dad kept the feed and saddles etc for the horse.  He also had cows and chickens.  I am feeling so blessed to have had such a “free spirited” childhood.  We didn’t have electronic devices and TV to entertain us.  We had our imaginations and parents who let us roam and play.  Standing here brings back so many memories . . . memories of experiences that have helped shape the person I am today.  Thanks Dad . . .

“When you rise in the morning, give thanks for the light, for your life, for your strength. Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason to give thanks, the fault lies in yourself.”  Tecumseh

This morning I woke up in the little cabin . . . no bathroom facilities.  I looked in the mirror and decided this would make a great 365 photo.  Bed Head to the n’th degree!  A small price to pay for waking up in Paradise . . .
