“It’s when ordinary people rise above the expectations and seize the opportunity that milestones truly are reached.”  Mike Huckabee

Shortly after I started this Blog and my 365 Project back in January . . . my MIL fell and broke her hip.  She is 92 years old, so we were quite worried and concerned about her future.  Luckily, it was a fracture, not a break  . . . and she healed so well, beyond the expectations of Doctors and Physiotherapists.  After months of Physio, we were able to get her up to the summer home in the Interior of BC where she has spent her summers for many, many years.  Fear of falling has been her biggest hurdle since the accident, so there were many challenges to be faced in the more rugged surroundings.

Kudo’s to her!  With determination and help from a neighbor who is a retired Physiotherapist . . . she is now walking, with the aide of hiking poles, from the cabin and up the steep driveway to the main road.  This is a major accomplishment for her, as she would do nothing without her walker when we left her at the beginning of the summer.  She is still fearful of falling, but is not allowing the fear to stop her in her tracks.  I’m so proud of her!  She is such an inspiration . . . and she turns 93 in just a few days!

Talk about Milestones eh??

“I don’t have anything to prove anymore. I can relax.” Paloma Picasso

Yet another rough day hanging out at the Lake.  The hot weather continues – so here I am cooling off in the nice breeze on the boat.  It’s a tough life, but someone has to do it . . . right??

“I actually love swimming but I just hate jumping in the water.”  Natalie Coughlin

My oh my, we’ve had a very hot day here at the Lake.  39 degrees Celsius, which is about 102F. Ugh!!  The only place to keep cool is in the water.  It feels so good!!

“When you rise in the morning, give thanks for the light, for your life, for your strength. Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason to give thanks, the fault lies in yourself.”  Tecumseh

This morning I woke up in the little cabin . . . no bathroom facilities.  I looked in the mirror and decided this would make a great 365 photo.  Bed Head to the n’th degree!  A small price to pay for waking up in Paradise . . .

“So I’m just gonna sit on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
Ooo, I’m sittin’ on the dock of the bay
Wastin’ time”  Otis Redding

Yup – lazy day!  Just gotta love moments like this because they don’t seem to last long.  The weather has been rather unpredictable, with downpours when least expected.  I managed a few minutes of relaxation on the dock, and set up this shot.  It would not be difficult to sit here all day, if I had no other obligations in my day.  So – I grab what I can, when I can . . . and appreciate every second of it.  Moments like this fill me up . . . re-energize me . . . helping me move forward to the next task at hand.  I am blessed.

“Canada is a good country to be from. It has a gentler slower pace – it lends perspective.”  Paul Anka

Happy Canada Day!  We don’t really do fireworks here like the American’s do on the 4th of July.  It was quite different for my Grandson – his first Canada Day and his first time being away from his parents over 4th of July.  Luckily, weather co-operated.  It’s been raining off and on for days, but it cleared this evening.  We built a nice campfire by the side of the lake and  spent the evening telling stories and roasting marshmallow’s for S’mores.  I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate . . .

“A true friend is one soul in two bodies”  Aristotle

My guy has been out on the lake in the boat with the boys fishing for the last two days.  Finally, I get my few minutes with him alone in the boat.  Ahhh . . . peacefulness!  I love it when he turns off the motor and we just float in the quiet bay . . .disconnected from life as we know it . . . just us and the loons.

“Health food may be good for the conscience but Oreos taste a hell of a lot better.”   Robert Redford, “The Junk Food Companion: The Complete Guide to Eating Badly” by Eric Spitznagel (1999)

We’re at the Lake for a week or so.  The property has the main house, and a smaller one bedroom cabin with no bathroom.  This is where the kids love to hang out and be kids, play cards, sleep . . . oh and suck up all the Coke they can and cram down as many Oreo cookies as possible!  I guess you’re only a kid once eh??  And yeah – once it was all gone, there was no more to replace what only took an afternoon to disappear!  It was intended to last the entire trip . . . oh well!  Good thing I brought lots of water and fruit . . .

“I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore . . . I hear it in the deep heart’s core.”  William Butler Yeats

I’m posting two photos here today – the first is my original rendition as I wanted to show the fish that were spawning under the dock.  However, I didn’t like the effect really, so I just reworked it and used this porthole .png that I found on Photobucket.   I think I’m happier with the result.  The Rainbow Trout weren’t swimming in close to shore so it was not possible to capture them in this shot.

“Art is the window to man’s soul. Without it, he would never be able to see beyond his immediate world; nor could the world see the man within.”  Claudia Johnson

Enjoying some of our last moments at the Lake before heading home to Vancouver.  No special processing here . . . tweaked just a bit for contrast and clarity in Lightroom.  Otherwise SOOC.
