“Sensual pleasures have the fleeting brilliance of a comet; a happy marriage has the tranquility of a lovely sunset.”
I love this particular photo because, as the above quote states, a happy marriage has the tranquility of a lovely sunset. I feel like that is where we are in our relationship these days – tranquil and happy. Not to say that we don’t have a few issues crop up now and then, but we know it’s safe to work through the issues without worry that one of us is going to walk away.
I love the feeling of walking hand in hand, side by side, with my best friend – exploring, adventuring, loving, living and sharing.
This photo was taken at sunset on Ke’e Beach at The End of The Road, Kauai, HI.
“There is one friend in the life of each of us who seems not a separate person, however dear and beloved, but an expansion, an interpretation, of one’s self, the very meaning of one’s soul.” Edith Wharton
My “bestie” and I headed off this morning to do some “shooting” out at a local Regional Park. I’ve never ventured out there before, and was curious. There’s a big reservoir that is apparently quite busy in the summer with swimmers and boaters. We saw quite a few fisherman today . . . one with a good catch.
It was a very gorgeous day, though a bit on the cool side especially in the shade. Regardless, we enjoyed the relaxed morning just hanging out together taking pictures of whatever took our fancy. I set up this shot where we were actually standing in the crook of a tree that is just off the bank with the lake in the background. I rested my camera on a picnic table that was just a few feet away, and set the timer to shoot off 3 photos. I’m not really happy with my hair in this, and I didn’t like the color in the original, so I used Nik Silver Efex Pro to convert to B&W.
And . . . I just like hanging out with this guy.
“I told you. You don’t love someone because of their looks or their clothes or their car. You love them because they sing a song only your heart can understand.” L.J. Smith
I pass by this framed poem that is hanging on the wall in the hallway by my bedroom – several times a day. I absolutely love the message here . . . and try to be like this in my relationship with my husband – who is my best friend – every moment of every day. Of course I’m far from perfect, and so is he. But . . . we love each other unconditionally and know we are safe in each other’s hearts no matter what.
I guess I never really understood what “best friend” meant until I met him.
“My best friend is the one who brings out the best in me.” Henry Ford
Sitting on the banks of the Muddy Fraser – one of our favorite spots in the Fraser Canyon, enjoying our Anniversary weekend to the fullest. This fella really does bring out the best in me . . . and I believe that I bring out the best in him. And we just don’t get tired of spending time together – we are each other’s cheering section! Do we fight?? You bet! Do we make up? Yessiree! And we have fun while we’re at it. Because I believe in him and he believe’s in me. We’re safe in sharing our truth with each other. I’m looking forward to many more years in our journey together.
