“The real pleasure was having the chance to enjoy being weightless, and the other was to spend some time looking out at this beautiful Earth that we’re all lucky to inhabit.”  Robert Crippen

Today is Baby Girl’s second birthday.  Papa G and I spent the day out and about with her just having fun. We went to the Chabot Space and Science Center in the Oakland Hills.  It’s a great place to take kids . . . fairly new and lots of great activities.  One exhibit was all about weightlessness in space.  In this one, I pressed the button on a touch screen, then stepped on to this mat with Papa and Ella.  A message said for us to JUMP!  When we did – it snapped out picture.  It’s supposed to look like we are weightless in space!  It didn’t turn out that great – but it was a lot of fun.  There was an option to e-mail it to yourself . . . so I did and thus it becomes my 365 for today!

We head off to Vegas for the 365 Meetup tomorrow . . . I’m going to miss the little one so much.  I’ve been with her every day for the last four weeks!

Hmm . . . I wonder who is going to go through withdrawal more . . .

“Think left and think right and think low and think high.  Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!”  Dr Seuss

Baby Girl wakes up every morning giggling and happy and playful.  It’s the most amazing experience for her Papa and I.  I love to listen to her talking with her stuffies in her crib – which she will do for almost half an hour.  Then I’ll hear a tentative “Ya Ya?”  When I get up and go in to get her, she giggles with joy and hides under her blanket.  How can one not just have a great day after waking up to that??  This morning, her last day here in Canada with us, she decided to climb on the window ledge in our bedroom and look outside for the birdies.  I love the whispy softness of this shot – taken with my iPad and processed in Photoshop CS6 with Nik Color Effex Pro.

I’m going to miss her so much!  But I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to spend this quality time with her.

Priceless!

“If becoming a grandmother was only a matter of choice, I should advise every one of you straight away to become one.  There is no fun for old people like it!”  Hannah Whitehall Smith

The little one is staying on with Ya Ya and Papa G here in Canada while Mommy flies home to California.  (We’ll be driving her back to California in a  weeks time)  We dropped Mommy at the airport in Bellingham this  morning, then went for breakfast at Shari’s Restaurant.  The food was practically inedible . . . but we hung out for a bit waiting for Cost Co to open.  We were in a nice spacious corner booth, so she had lots of room to play and jump and “attack”! I shot this with my iPad, then processed it in Snapseed.  Gotta love these apps!  I love this picture because it really epitomizes my relationship with her.  We adore each other!  She misses Mommy, but she loves her Ya Ya!

Nuff said!

“I think when I was two years old in the sandbox, I think I formulated my basic philosophy there, and I haven’t really had to alter it very much ever since.” Boyd Rice

I don’t even know what to write for today’s post.  I’m just having so much fun following my little Grand Daughter around with the camera.  Today’s 365 is another DNA shot – totally allowed by the guidelines set out at the beginning. Way back in January.  And here we are at the end of October.  And I’m still going strong.  Wow!  Sure there are days when I struggle, and just have no clue what to do.  Somehow though, I get inspired – usually from my fellow 365’ers who are all still cranking away with me.  In fact, many of us are meeting up in Las Vegas mid-November for a few days of Photography goodness.  There’s probably about 25 of us that are still posting regularly – and about 15 of us that are meeting up in Vegas.  Including the guy who started it all . . .the very amazing and talented Michael the Maven himself!

It’s gonna be a blast!  Anyway – that’s it for today.

I’m off with my camera again – more “Little” photo-ops!

“Nobody can do for little children what grandparents do.  Grandparents sort of sprinkle startdust over the lives of little children.”  Alex Haley

My beautiful little almost-2-year-old Grand Daughter has come to visit with her Mommie for a week.  If you’ve read previous posts, we had her here for three weeks last winter while her Daddy had open heart surgery.  I am so excited that Mommie has decided to spend her vacation time here in Canada with Papa G and Ya Ya.  She absolutely loves her baths . . . in fact she is a water baby – loves anything that involves water – even the rain!  She is an absolute delight.  I love the sound of her laughter ringing through the house.  It’s going to be a fun week ahead!

“I’ve got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom.”  Thomas Carlyle

I shot this with my husbands iPad as baby and I sat watching Bubble Guppies on my iPad before bedtime.  I realized I had not taken my 365 Self Portrait for the day yet.  The baby had not slept well the last couple of nights, which means of course that I got little sleep as well.  I am absolutely exhausted sitting here with her.  However, as tired as I am I cherish any and all moments I have with her, as I will be taking her home on the 16th.  Five days away!  Yikes!  I emailed the image to myself and processed it with Photoshop Touch on my iPad after she went to bed.  The fuzziness is about how I was feeling at the time!

“Hugs can do great amounts of good, especially for children.” Princess Diana, Princess of Wales

I was busy cleaning today, getting ready for the onslaught of company coming this weekend for Easter. My son, daughter-in-law and  4 year old Granddaughter arrive today from Oregon.  Baby girl was following me around entertaining herself, happy as could be just being in same space as I was.  At one point I was cleaning in the Master Bath when I felt a tug at my leg and looked down.  There she was wanting “up!”.  How could I deny that moment?  Luckily my camera was right there as well, so I was able to capture the moment for posterity.  I can only say again . . .I am one very lucky and blessed “Ya Ya”!

“A child’s attitude toward everything is an artist’s attitude.”
-Willa Cather

My Great Nephew decided to draw “hands” this afternoon.  He put his hand on the paper and traced it.  Then he put my hand on the paper and traced it.  He then added the fingernails and my ring.  He was just so proud of himself!    Oh to have that uncensored,  fearless feeling when I create!  I am such a harsh judge of myself and yet see such beauty in the simplicity of his creativity.  At 60 years of age, I am seeking that child-like abandon . . .

“We are never more fully alive, more completely ourselves, or more deeply engrossed in anything than when we are playing.” Charles Schaefer

Today I had the pleasure of watching my 3.5 year old Great Nephew as well as my 16 month old Granddaughter.  My house was chaos!  The living room was a mass of pillows for Batman who was jumping from couch to ottoman to the floor destroying the world!  The dining room chairs were covered in blankets for the fortress.  The kitchen “tupperware” cupboard was emptied on to the kitchen floor as Batman’s destruction continued!  Of course, the baby just followed along loving every moment of it!  I decided early on there was no sense in fighting it.  I captured this moment on the kitchen floor just before nap time as the three of us surveyed the “mess” (Baby Girls description).  I’m trying to remember how often I sat in the midst of the “creativity” of my children, savoring the moment – like I did today with my Granddaughter and Great Nephew.  How much more aware I am today of the preciousness of every fleeting moment . . . the memories created.  How important just being in the moment is.  Treasuring it.  Relishing every second of it.

This isn’t the most creative, or technically perfect photo.  It’s taken with my little point and shoot.  However, I think it is 100% perfect from an emotional standpoint.  At least from where I’m sitting!

“I think of life itself now as a wonderful play that I’ve written for myself, and so my purpose is to have the utmost fun playing my part.” Shirley McLaine

We actually had a day without rain!  Yay!  Baby girl and I took off to the park for a bit.  Later that afternoon – I snapped this picture of us having some chill time before her afternoon nap.  I masked in the photo of her at the park.  I do feel like I’m so lucky to have this opportunity to be with my Granddaughter for this length of time.  I know her Mommy and Daddy miss her terribly, but they know she is safe and happy here with us.  Every day I am reminded of her mother when she was this age, just a happy, playful, sweet little girl.
