“Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not.”  Ralph Waldo Emerson

Road Trip!!

We’re on our first leg of a 4 day road trip to California with the baby.  This picture is taken at the Pacific Border Crossing between Surrey, BC and Blaine, WA.  We’ve got a six to seven hour drive ahead of us to just south of Portland, OR.  Baby Girl is snuggled in and happy.  What an awesome little traveler she is too.  It took an hour to get through the border, and another 20 minutes to Bellingham where we gassed up.  She’d been in the car two hours by then, with no fussing what so ever.  I let her out to run around at the Fred Meyer in North Bellingham while hubby gassed up the car.  The rest of the trip was uneventful with just a couple of rest stops for food and stretching our legs.  I did load up my iPad with a few of her favorite shows, which kept her entertained during part of the trip.  For much of the time she either slept, or chatted with us or herself, and sang songs . . . one of the most fun drives south I’ve had in a long time.  We’ll be two days at my son’s south of Portland before we head out again.

The Road Trip continues . . .

“If becoming a grandmother was only a matter of choice, I should advise every one of you straight away to become one.  There is no fun for old people like it!”  Hannah Whitehall Smith

The little one is staying on with Ya Ya and Papa G here in Canada while Mommy flies home to California.  (We’ll be driving her back to California in a  weeks time)  We dropped Mommy at the airport in Bellingham this  morning, then went for breakfast at Shari’s Restaurant.  The food was practically inedible . . . but we hung out for a bit waiting for Cost Co to open.  We were in a nice spacious corner booth, so she had lots of room to play and jump and “attack”! I shot this with my iPad, then processed it in Snapseed.  Gotta love these apps!  I love this picture because it really epitomizes my relationship with her.  We adore each other!  She misses Mommy, but she loves her Ya Ya!

Nuff said!

“Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.”  L.M. Montgomery, The Story Girl

I am reveling in the blessing of having my Daughter and Grand Daughter visiting from California for the week.  Today we spent some time in Vancouver at Stanley Park.  I have great memories visiting here as a child, and as well, bringing my own kids here when they were little.  So it was with great joy that I was able to share this experience with my Grand Daughter, and share the memories with my Daughter.

Moments like these are priceless . . .

“Feeling sorry for yourself, and your present condition, is not only a waste of energy but the worst habit you could possibly have.”  Dale Carnegie

I’ve been a bit tired the last few days . . . I think the busy summer is catching up with me.  It’s been a pretty awesome summer starting back in June with the arrival of my Grandson from Maryland, then a trip to the Interior, sharing some of our Canadian sights and culture.  July found us in Oregon and California visiting West Coast family.  Since arriving home from that trip, I’ve been to Vancouver Island for a Wedding Celebration, and up to the Interior again to the Lake for a short respite.  We’re headed back to Oregon for Labor Day weekend to visit my Son who has just moved in to his new home.  I think I just need some down time to fill up the energy tanks.

“Our deeds still travel with us from afar, and what we have been makes us what we are.”  George Eliot

I’ve spent a fair bit of time in my car driving over the last few weeks(Canada to Oregon to California, with lots of sightseeing in between).  Today I was able to sit back and relax while my husband did the driving, as he had flown down to California to spend a bit of time with the grandkids, and drive home with me.   I caught this reflection in the car’s mirror as we were driving along. I was feeling quite satisfied with the past 6 weeks of activities since my Grandson had flown out from Maryland to spend time with me.  I am so incredibly blessed in my life, and am so happy to be able to create value in the lives of those around me.  Today though, I was really enjoying having someone else take the wheel!

“They say genes skip generations.  Maybe that’s why grandparents find their grandchildren so likeable.”  ~Joan McIntosh

Every year for the past six years I have brought one of my East Coast Grandkids out to the west coast to spend time with family they would not see otherwise.  This year was my 13 year old Grandson’s turn.  He flew out June 20th, and sadly, today is the day he flies home.  We’ve done a lot in the last five weeks including three weeks in Canada (where I live), some time in Oregon, and the last 10 days in California.  He’s a wonderful, caring and loving spirit with that 13 year old boyish zest for life.  It has been my distinct pleasure to “host” him for the past six weeks.  I’m gonna miss you Ty Ty!

“Taking ‘you’ time is crucial and should be guilt free!”  Alice D. Domar, Phd

I arrived at my Daughter’s in the San Francisco Bay Area last night.  Temps here are in the high 80’s to mid 90’s.  It’s warm!  First order of business . . . a pedicure so I can wear my sandals without shame!  Seriously overdue, and felt so good to sit back and vegetate for an hour doing nothing.  ahhhhhhh!!!!!!

“A mother becomes a true grandmother the day she stops noticing the terrible things her children do because she is so enchanted with the wonderful things her grandchildren do.”  Lois Wyse

One of the most joyful things in my life these days is waking up in the morning with a Little snuggled in to me!  I’m at my Son’s in Oregon, and am up first thing this morning to drive 12 hours to the San Francisco Bay Area to visit more grandkids.  I didn’t want to get up too early though, and not say goodbye to my Granddaughter.  She’s been sleeping with me every night since I arrived in Oregon.  So how special was it to wake up and find her snuggled right in to me?  I used my iPad to carefully snap this shot . . . so as not to wake her.  I might have said this before . . . but I love my life!

“Water is life’s mater and matrix, mother and medium.  There is no life without water.”  Albert Szent-Gyorgyi

We were playing in the back yard before naptime.  She is a water baby at heart . . . and loves playing in her water table.  I took my socks off so they wouldn’t get wet as I cleaned it out and refilled it, then took her sandals off so they wouldn’t get wet.  She immediately grabbed my socks and put them on!  So much for not getting them wet – but what’s a Ya Ya to do, eh?  I live for moments like this . . .

She’s just fascinated with the other kids in the play area . . . and I was absolutely fascinated by her fascination . . .
